Frankfurt, 17/05/2017

Urban, cosmopolitan, diverse and open to everyone: the future FOUR Frankfurt high-rise complex will finally bring colour and life to the financial district. Four skyscrapers which combine housing, living and working will be built on the former Deutsche Bank site and set new standards in urban development. Construction has not begun yet, but the vision is already very much alive. And this new and unique urban joie de vivre must come across in the project’s future logo. In March, project developer Groß & Partner organised a creative competition and invited the public to submit their design ideas. A jury of four experts comprising representatives from Groß & Partner and creative professionals from Frankfurt has now selected the best four pieces from over 40 submissions.

Instead of just one winner, four different designs were awarded prizes

The aim of the competition was to find a design that would serve as an inspiration and basis for the final logo design. In a first round, the eight best pieces were selected from 42 submitted designs. In view of the different approaches, however, the jury could not agree on a winning design. The pragmatic solution: instead of choosing one winner, the jury simply split the 5,000-euro prize money among four favourites to honour each of the four designs equally. Four competitors therefore received a recognition prize of 1,250 euros each. The lucky winners include Norman Kraft and Carla Thoen from Frankfurt, the Furcht & Tadel team from Siegen and Natalie Micheev from Bad Homburg.

Multifaceted design approaches and lines of thought

The submitted designs showed a wide range of possibilities. The most common design compositions were based on the number 4 and the “four elements” theme, which is not unexpected given that there are four skyscrapers that symbolically merge living, working, shopping and going out. “We are impressed by the number of design entries and their creativity. We had not expected to receive so many suggestions, especially since we had only promoted the competition as part of the architecture competition exhibition,” said Nikolaus Bieber, managing partner at Groß & Partner, about the results of the competition. “We would like to thank all the participants!” The bar has been set high for the professionals tasked with the final design.”
